About Barry Tempest

Barry’s aviation career as a pilot began in 1954 with a solo flight in an Air Training Corps glider.

An instructor in 1960; by 1973, he made history as the youngest and first non-service pilot appointed to the Flying Instructor Examining Panel. As a Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) between 1962 and 1984, Barry managed aero clubs in Little Snoring, Peterborough, and Leicester, mentoring hundreds of pilots. He also instructed commercial pilots at Perth in 1980.

Barry co-founded the Barnstormers Flying Circus (1963) with over 2,300 air show slots and a season with the Rothmans Aerobatic Team.

From 1984 to 1998, Barry served the UK Civil Aviation Authority, regulating and monitoring private aviation and civil air displays.

He has over 13,000 flying hours in his many logbooks, lover the years he has held UK PPL, CPL and ATPL licenses plus Balloon PPL and CPL along with US and Russian pilots qualifications and a gliding Silver “C* badgeand Gold “C( height.

Now 88, he remains a committed light aviation enthusiast and is a Vice President of the Historic Aircraft Association along with being an elected Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society
